Tips To Help You Get Started Vaping

Don't forget to check out our posts, The Truth About Vaping and Vaping Into The Quit, for further information.

Trying to quit smoking is one of the most difficult endeavors you will ever go through. Believe it or not, nicotine is not the culprit. It’s the Monoamine oxidase inhibitors or MAOI’s. They are found naturally in tobacco and reduce the levels of dopamine that nicotine release. The other 3999 chemicals don’t help either. Don’t worry though, I’m here to help (Insert super hero theme song of your choice here).

Unlike cigarettes, the juice, or e-liquid, used in vaping only has two chemicals. Vegetable glycerin, or VG, is a clear, odorless liquid produced from plant oils, typically palm oil, soy, or coconut oil. Propylene glycol, or PG is used as a preservative in food products. Propylene glycol is also used in various edible items such as coffee-based drinks, liquid sweeteners, ice cream, whipped dairy products and soda. The nicotine and flavoring are either VG or PG based. There are different blends that you can get your juice in from a 50/50 blend to 80/20 (which is what our premium line is.)  There are also some juices that are 100% VG.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get to it, shall we.

1 – Throw away your cigarettes immediately.

You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. All it will do is to remind you that you have not finished smoking, so it is better to get them out of your life as quick as possible.  Change small things about your smoking habit.  If you used to open your driver side window to smoke, open your passenger side.  You spent your mornings out front of your house, head out back and see what that is like.  By changing small things you will have less of the triggers that compel you to smoke.

2 – Choose the right device for you.

With so many options for devices, tanks, coils, batteries, etc., it can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but stay calm. Come see us (or head to your local vape shop), tell them you want to start vaping and ask questions. The vaping community is very friendly and most shops have a knowledgeable staff. Be patient and don’t jump on the first thing you see.

Many of the people that hang out at the vape shops will be using some advanced mods and tanks or rda’s, that most beginners will not really want to touch, so don’t worry about them.  You will want to choose something that fits you and that will help you achieve what you are trying to do.

3 – Have a secondary device.

The worst thing that could happen is the batteries dying or the coil burns out in your device half way through the day. That may just make you go buy a pack of cigarettes, so make sure you always have at least one extra battery and a backup coil.

Take it from experience: If you are trying to fight the battle of quitting, there is one thing you don’t want to do is run out of juice or be down a coil.  It will lead to temptation to buy a pack of cigarettes.  When I ran out, all I could do is get to the shop as quickly as possible, so make sure that you plan ahead.  If you are going out of town, bring a couple spares along with, just in case.  Murphy’s Law and all that.

4 – Find the right nicotine level for you.

The nicotine in vape juice is absorbed differently then it is from a cigarette. It takes a little bit longer with vape juice. Again, rely on your vape shop staff for helping you decide the level that is right for. If you start vaping and think you need more or less nicotine, just let the staff know and they can adjust the nicotine level.

Nicotine is a very important part of the process of quitting smoking.  You are going to need it to get through the initial cravings and you will need to slowly ween yourself off of it.  You need to have a plan in place to lower your nicotine.  Many of our people will lower their nicotine levels when they come in to get new juice.  We have found that it is a good way to start lowering, but some of you will be a bit slower in the lowering process and that is okay as well.

5 – Find the flavor that is right for you.

It is very important to find what flavors you need to help you in the transition. For some, vaping tobacco flavored juice is like drinking non alcoholic beer. It makes you want the real thing. Almost all vape shops have tester bars that allow you to try the flavors of juices they offer. Everybody has a different palette so take your time and taste as many as you can. Just know, that it doesn’t matter how fruity your juice is, what matters is the fact that you are going to use it to quit!

6 – Vape through the cravings.

For the first couple of weeks the cravings will still be there and they will be fierce, stay strong and vape through them. If you go through a 15ml of juice in six minutes to get past a craving, it will be totally worth it. After about two weeks with zero cigarettes, you will have forgotten all about them.

7 – Don’t listen to the haters.

There are people in the world that would let you believe that vaping is just as bad for you as smoking. Those people either make money off of big tobacco or are too lazy to do the research themselves. Don’t take my word for it, do the research, check facts. It’s all there on the internet.

At the end of the day it’s your choice, your freedom, your right to make the switch and live a happier healthier life.
